Diary

Today i was deterlined to do better than in the €500 Pot Limit and to add to my points for Best Overall by at least making the final , that was the plan anyway , here is the reality .

With 1000 chips and blinds at 2 5 and 45 minute levels it was a good structure , some players however prefer 10,000 chips and blinds of 20 50 and can't adjust to only 1000 chips even though with blinds at 2 5 it is exactly the same , therefore instead of standard 3 times BB raises we were getting raises of 75 which is 15 times BB ! As i had an agressive table i decided to mix it up a little and play some hands in position .

I didn't see one premium hand in level 1 but managed to increase to 1865 with 45h on the button , flop was A 3 6 , i called a bet of 100 , turn a J , again i called this time for 200 , i figured he had an A , may have even made 2 pair on the turn but if i missed my straight draw i would bluff if a flush came besides i was getting 4-1 on the turn , river was a 7 , he checked to me and i bet 375 and he called .

I have noticed when writing my diaries i like to play a lot of hands on the button , i assume as i have position and i feel i am good at putting players on hands if i miss i can still bluff , anyway in the second level i flat called a raise on the button with AK , flop was A 9 4 and i flat called for 175 , turn an 8 and when he checked i overbet 700 but no call , then i won an unusual pot after limping again on the button with KQs , flop was 9 T J , i flat called a bet of 150 , turn was a J , he checked so i bet 175 to see if the J helped , he called , river was a 4 , when he checked again i value bet 275 , he called , now like me you probably think he bet the flop with JQ top pair with straight draw then turned a set , that would make sense of his calls , but no his hand was 9T , his style of play made me play a big hand slow against him later that i would have gone out with otherwise.

This is what happened , blinds were still only 5 10 , he raised to 30 , i called with 66 , flop was K Q 6 , he bet 300 and i flat called , turn was a T , again he bet 300 , i just called sure he had AK and would bet the river , unfortunately the river was a T and he moved in , i knew he had backdoored the straight and passed , he showed AA , if i had moved in on the flop he would never have laid down the Aces and i would have been out , i still had 1725 so not too much damage done but this turned out to be my key hand as i nver really got back into the game .

I called a raise with A9 of clubs , flop was A 6 T with two clubs , BB bets 275 , i reraise to 900 , he calls 945 all in , he has AK , turn is an 8 increasing my outs but river a T and i am down to 545.

I quickly got some back calling a small raise in the BB with 89s , flop was A 4 7 , both checked , turn a 6 , i check called for 125 , river a 5 and i moved in for 380 and got called , finished level 3 with 1120.

Blinds were now 15 30 so i still had 37 times BB , i called a 90 raise in the BB with A7s , flop was A 4 2 , he checked after me but something told me he was trapping , turn gave me the nut flush draw , i check called for 125 , river was another A , again i just check called for a 100 , my instincts were right he had AK !

I now played the 9T/AA guy again , he raised to 125 from FP with blinds of 25 50 i called with 9Ts , flop was A 9 4 , i bet 100 to see if he had an A , he called , turn was another A , we both checked , river a 3 , i bet another 100 now knowing he didn't have an A and my top two pair should be good , he called with KK , no matter what i bet at any stage he was the sort of player who couldn't put KK down even when his preflop raise has been called and an A flops .

Last hand of the level after a limper , the pot is raised to 200 , in the BB with AT i go all in for 180 , the limper passed and i find i am actually in front , the raiser has A3s , i survive after a flop of A 9 4 5 A but my stack is still in bad shape with blinds going up to 35 70 .

I blind down to 285 and move in with 88 , the BB calls me with 22 and i double up , at the dinner break average is approx 2000 , i have 385 and when we return blinds will be 50 100 .

No time for skillful play , it's all in , first time i have A4s , get called by 77 and river an A , the second time was my last , Paul Testud had been routinely raising on my right , three times he showed KJ KQ K8s , on the fourth i found ATs and decided that was good enough , he raised to 425 , i moved in for 550 , all passed to Paul who called , i showed my ATs but this time his hand had gone up a notch to AJ , ok i thought i just need a T , the flop ended any hope whatsoever when it came J J J to give Paul quads !

So that was the end of todays event , only positive was that i later saw the final and not one of the 9 has scored points this week , that means with one event to go for the Best Overall , i can only be caught if one of the players with 9 or more , finishes in the top three , as the last event is Short Handed No Limit which i won here in February i will try to secure the win by getting more points myself .
