Diary

After coming 4th in yesterdays event which finished at 7am i woke up at 3pm and decided to give the €30 Progressive a miss , instead i went for dinner with my partner Mathilde and Tom Gibson , over dinner we talked of my change in form and as Tom was going back to the Aviation to play cash i decided to go with him just to see how the " Progressive " works .

I got there at 11.40 , players as usual were on the dinner break which starts at 10.30 and ends at midnight , i went to see Sabine who was running the event for an explanation , basically there are three levels during which you can join for €30 and get 50 chips , blinds start at 1 2 , after the rebuy period ends they add up the number of chips and divide by the players left to get the average , you can then buy in for a pro rata value .

At midnight several players bought in for €270 getting 450 chips , blinds were 15 30 , i decided to see how quickly players dropped out and watch the price go up , when after 20 minutes of the 40 minute level it reached 295 for 495 chips with 74 players left i decided to buy in , as this was not on my schedule and i was just trying to get points i didn't take any notes. You can guess what's coming lol .

Somehow i drew the same starting seat as last nights and boy did i have an easy table , by the next level of 25 50 i had turned the 495 into 3200 , by the time we were down to 18 , average was approx 2200 and i had 6300 , now i was focused on getting as many points as possible for the Best Overall as i considered this a bonus event , i made the final 3rd chip leader .

I had left the club at 7am yesterday morning and now it was 5.30am and here i was in my second final in a row , oh by the way they ended up with a total of 201 players so this format is obviously popular , the final came down to 4 key hands .

Blinds were so high i decided to gamble and called an all in by the short stack with A7s , he had AJ but i spiked a 7 , then when another player moved in i called with AQ , this time i had him beat and he didn't catch his J or T , now i was chip leader but eventually after 4 more players had left we were down to 3 and i was just shortest stack .

On the button i picked up KK and raised double the BB , the SB moved in and after i called the BB showed they had mucked 33 , the SB had 77 but didn't get lucky , the next hand i finished him off and was heads up .

It was now 7am and my opponent was tired , every time i called in the SB he would move in gradually eating into my chip lead at 4000 8000 blinds , as we neared parity i knew i needed to call one of these all ins to win , i picked up 44 and called knowing as usual he would move in , this time i called imediately , it was a race , he had A6 , i flopped a 4 and it was all over.

So not only did i win my second event of the year here in Paris , ok i know it was only a €30 event but it cost me €295 and interestingly i found out all 3 of us at the end had all bought in after dinner , but hey it does the confidence good and now with the 15 points to add to the 7 from yesterday i will be hard to catch , hopefully i may be able to add to this score with 3 events to go .

Here in Paris they give the winners a metal model of a plane , i now have a Spitfire to go with my Lancaster Bomber and my Boeing 747 !

In the last 9 days i have gone from no results for three months to 2nd of 246 as defending champion in Amsterdam and 4th of 183 followed by 1st of 201 in Paris and they say football is a funny old game !
