Diary
My strategy in todays $1500 No Limit was to play at my pace regardless of the average increasing as players dropped out . We started with 2045 players and i recognised no one on my table .
During the first level i got lucky in the blinds when i flopped two pair and i led out and was over raised , i moved in to protect against the flush draw and he passed , i was up to 2200 and thought maybe today i was going to do well .
At the end of the level i was one off the button and after two limpers i called for 25 with AJo hoping the button would pass and give me position , i didn't raise as the early limpers could be slow playing big pairs , the button also flat called , flop was A 5 9 with two clubs , checked to me i bet 175 and the button called , i put him on a small A or flush draw , all other passed , turn was a 6 , i bet 600 and he moved in for 650 more , i knew now he had an A but was it paired or had he slow played AQ or AK on the button after 3 limpers which would be a very weak play , if it had a T i had him outkicked , a J and we were splitting , i called , he had AQs , no J and i was down to 600 .
In the next level i was blinded down to 450 , the chip leader raised from FP to 125 and i found AA and reraised to 250 , he had 2800 and i expected him to put me all in for my last 200 , instead he passed !
Every pot was raised and i blinded down to 175 determined not to give up , eventually i found TT , the FP raised to 225 and i went all in , the AQs player called and they checked to the river where the FP bet 300 with his AK and won the 100 side pot , i got the rest as the flop was 5 T 8 A T giving me quads !
One round later and in FP i found AK and raised to 175 , a shorts stack reraised to 600 , i called all in for 650 and he turned up TT , this time having won with them i had to beat them , the flop didn't oblige as it was 3 5 8 2 9 and i was out .
In the $5000 Pot Limit Hold-em Steve Lui finished 6th but as i write John Gale is up to second chip leader , the danger to all is Allen Cunningham who is in 4th chip position and has already won a bracelet and $725,000 in the first event .
In the $2500 Hi Lo Richard Gryko was the highest finishing Brit on day 2 in 25th .
When i left Devilfish was in great shape in the $1500 with 20,000 chips , he told me for some reason players keep trying to bluff him , i am sure as the average is only 6000 he isn't complaining , in the first $1500 he came 3rd out of 2305 , if he makes this final out of 2045 that would be some achievement .
Day off for me tomorrow then back on Friday for the $2500 No Limit , still feeling confident that i will get a result at this years series .
