Diary
This was a rebuy event starting with 4000 chips , add on after 2 levels , there were 60 players , 24 Rebuys and 34 add ons. The structure started at 25 50 and 45 minute levels.
Level one i played two hands TJ QKss with a flop of T T 4 3 6 , called to the river hoping to make my full and that my opponent didn't have an A , he didn't , then i raised with KJ K8ds , got three callers but had to pass on a flop of A 7 A.
The next level i played weak AA aggressively , i reraised with AA Q3 getting one caller , on the flop of K 4 2 i moved in , no calls , i ended the level with 4700 and took the add on giving me 8700 with the average 8100.
Still playing tight i won a nice pot with KQ 22 in the SB , flop was A 6 2 , i check called a 1300 bet , turn was the fourth 2 , i check raised and was called for 5500 , now up to 14,500.
With blinds of 200 400 when one player moved in for 900 i called from the BB with AJ 92ss , two more called , flop was J 6 4 giving me top pair and the nut flush draw , i bet to get it heads up and the others passed , the all in had 56 89 , he caught a 5 for two pair and survived.
By the start of the 5th level i had 12,300 and half the players were gone , i was getting no hands so when i finally picked up AA KQss and was raised 2000 i reraised to 6900 with no calls ,this just got me back to 10,400 with an average of 15,600.
I won one more pot when a short stack raised all in for 2200 , i had limped with AT T4ss and decided to take him on , he had AK Q6 which looked great when the first two cards on the flop came K Q but the third was a J giving me the nuts which stood up , back up to 12,300.
Blinds were now 400 800 and i decided to change gear , when a short stack goes all in for 3400 i call from the BB with KQ J4ds , flop is A 4 T giving me a K high flush draw and any picture for a straight , he has AA 36 for top set , turn was a 6 river gave me the nut flush so of course it was the 4th A to make his quads !
I flop one set unpaid then when i raise with A9 9Tds i get four callers ! Flop is 4 6 7 and all hell lets lose before i can pass , i get moved for the 4th time today , only 19 left , average is 25,000 and i have only 6800 , i have to gamble , i don't like going below a quarter of the average as you only have to win two pots to get back in contention , so when my blind is raised 2700 i call with A5 68ds , flop is 3 7 9 , i check call all in , he has QQ A7 , but i am up and down with the nut flush draw , the river brings a 4 and i have survived back up to 14,200.
There are now 18 players left , 9 get paid , on my table there has been a preflop raise virtually every hand , so when i get rag AA in FP i limp , unfortunately there are 3 callers , the flop is 4 6 8 , my hand is AA 68 so i decide to pick it up and bet pot of 7200 , one player raises , i only have 2200 left , best hope is that he does have the straight and i can hit my full house , i call , he had limped in third position with A3 57 no suits and flopped the nuts which stood up.
There are two ways to look at this , hoping to reraise preflop for heads up wasn't a bad play , but once the flop came even with top two my best option was to check , any better is likely to have at least a set or as in this case the straight so i can pass and still have 9400 , blinds will cost 1800 then i have one round to find a hand to make a stand with , however the better play was as one of the short stacks raise to 4200 , now i can either win the 1800 in blinds unchallenged or if reraised call all in for 10,600 and in this case my two pair would have probably been good.
What you should remember is your hand value changes during a tournament , a hand such as AA 68 is not one you should be calling raises early on , but at this stage with my chips it was good enough to raise with from FP.
My next two events are both Double Chance No Limit , a format that suits me , i hope to last longer and have some intersting hands , until then , all the best.
