Diary
We started with 10,000 and in the first level i increased to 12,975 by playing one hand , in the BB i had 57s , flop was A 5 7 , i check raised a 200 bet to 500 , turn i bet 750 and river 1600 , called all the way .
Second level was pretty similar , two hand this time , J9s , made a flush and JJ reraised pre flop , no callers , slight increase to 13,875.
During the 100 200 level i found my best hand QQ but passed on an A high flop , i then found JJ again and raise to 700 , i get reraised 2000 more and flat call , flop is 8 high , he bets 2000 and i move in , no call and i am going well then i made a mistake .
A new player sat on my left and on his first BB this happened , i limped in FP with AQ , there were two more limpers , the BB now raised 1200 , often a good player will do this with a range of hands as the limpers have not represented a strong hand and he can pick up the pot , not knowing if he was capable of this play and to get rid of the other two i reraised to 2700 , they both passed and the BB instantly went all in for a total of 7600 , now i thought about this later and have decided a good way of reading this situation is to imagine you are another player at the table watching the action , what would you put the all in player on ? He has raised and then when reraised moved in , must be KK or AA .
However for some reason instead of using basic ABC reasoning , i convinced myself that if he had AA or KK he would not have moved in instantly , i was sure he would dwell up a while then reraise hoping for a call rather than scare me away , that coupled with the fact i had twice seen pairs beaten by AK or AQ made me call hoping he had JJ or TT , sadly not , he had KK and i didn't get lucky and hit my A . Now apart from the fact i made a bad call , from a strategic point as regards my chip position at that stage if nothing else i should have passed . Learn from my mistakes , it's a lot cheaper !
Carlo Citrone was on my right having a tough time and we were both trying to catch a flop , there were already three limpers so i called with QTo , Carlo also called , flop was K T T , checked to me i also checked hoping one of the two behind would bet , turn was a small club making a flush , all checked and Carlo bet 700 , passed to me i called , i was sure if he had the A flush draw he would have bet the flop so if my set was no good or didn't fill i could always bluff if a fourth club came , the river was another club , i bet 700 and Carlo didn't like it as it looked like he had been rivered but he decided to call , he had J6 of clubs !
I then had AQ twice , the first time i reraised all in and was called by AQ , split pot , the second was my last hand , FP raised to 1700 , i reraised to 3500 all in with AQs , he said " you got me , i'm gambling , i'll call " , he had TJo , flop was A 8 9 , turn a K , river a Q !
Obviously we don't know how important my earlier call was for 4700 more but i won't do that again , i am off to LA next week for the WPT at the Bicycle club , i have never played there , maybe a change of venue will motivate me to play my A game as you should at all times , quite often that's all this game comes down to at the highest level , who makes the least mistakes.
