Diary
Apart from a lack of good cards , my bluffs were mistimed and my best hands missed the flop .
Another great structure of 10,000 chips and 45 minute levels.
During the first i had TT and on a flop of J 5 J a bet won , we started with 5000 of the 10,000 with the remainder given if you went below 2500 or after 2 levels .
In level 2 i had 66 and called a small raise the flop was checked to the river and looked good for me so i called a bet on the river , i put my opponent on AK but in fact he had AQ , flop was Q 2 2 5 5 . I then had QQ and raised and was called by the same player , Ben Grundy , flop was A K K and his A6s won , i was already thinking this may not be my night !
I started the third level of 100 200 with 8875 and actually won a hand with AJ on a flop of Q J 6 J 6 but no call on the river , our table was broke and i found myself at a table with what looked like good position.
With three limpers i raised with AQs in the BB and got one caller , flop was T 4 3 and i passed to a bet . I tried to force the action with small pocket pairs but never connected and was losing chips when i made a move at the wrong time .
A little out of frustration at seeing no hands and partly because of some speech play i called a raise three handed in the BB with 22 . One player had limped for 200 and another raised to 1200 , all passed to me , i said " you must have AK and don't want a call " the limper said " that's what i have too " knowing he would have raised with AK i put him on a lower A and decided my 22 could be winning and i could bluff a low flop , he also called .
The flop couldn't have been worse K Q 8 , we checked to the raiser who also checked , now i put him on an under pair , turn was a 6 and again all checked , river was a J , i thought this could be a good card for me to bluff as i could represent either AT or 9T and as the limper looked as though he was done with the hand so i only had the raiser to beat , i fired out 1800 , the limper passed but the raiser reraised me all in , i now confidently told him he must have a set of Jacks and passed , out of respect for a good read he showed i was right but that doesn't help my dwindling stack.
Ther was a buffet break and although i was down to 3300 i was determined that things could change , i found an A8s and took a flop but missed , then a new player joined two to my left , on his first hand he moved in for 1700 and was called , i passed my 92o in the SB and both players turned up AQ , he survived , the very next hand all passed to me and with J9s on the button and his stack being the only stack smaller than mine in the BB i moved in to try to pick up the 600 , the SB passed but the BB who now had 2000 called , this time he had TT !
I was down to 300 , i waited three hands and finally picked up AQo , i went all in and the SB called and the BB checked , flop was Q 9 2 rainbow , could a miracle comeback be on the cards , had i finally got the right hand at the right time ? Both checked , turn was a 6 , now the SB bet 1200 and the BB passed , i turned over my AQ and he showed K9s , as i said at the top sometimes it's not your day , the river was a K !
I always look for something positive , in this case i don't believe i played my A game as i allowed the lack of hands to effect me , however i had an early exit and had already made the decision to skip the Friday evening tournament to be rested and refocused for the weekend main event , the £1500 No Limit , i guarantee i will last longer than the 5th level and i will be aiming for my second final at this event .
