Diary

The worst bad beat i ever took was 3 years ago at the WSOP , there were 12 of us left and 5 seats to be won for the $10,000 Championship event . I was one of the chip leaders so when a stack a third of mine moved in from first position i quickly called with KK , my opponent turned over AQ .

The flop was 8 8 8 and the turn the fourth 8 to give him quads with an A !

Today in the $2500 Super i took the strangest beat .

We started with 380 players and 5000 in chips , after building to 7000 i was moved , first 2 hands i doubled up with QQ and TT , then while in the SB with 78 i flopped the nuts on a 4 5 6 flop , i bet 1200 and was called , turn was a 5 , i checked and the chip leader declared all in , i called , he had K5 , nothing paired and i was up to 30,000 .

At the break i still had 30,000 when the average was 12,000 , as tables broke and new players joined i maintained my stack around 30,000 so with 120 left i had double the average .

One of the players to join our table was Vinny Vinh , now i have only played with him twice , once in a single table satellite at the WSOP where when he got rivered he smashed his wall of chips across the table hitting the dealer and got a warning , then in the $3000 here he was opposite me and was knocked out when he raised with A5 and both myself in the BB and the SB had AK and split the pot .

Earlier in that event he had made a great call when a player moved in on him on the flop with just T7 no pair and he called with AT no pair but the other player rivered a 7 . He then went mad shouting how this happened to him all the time using the F word in every sentence , eventually he walked away from the table , one player remarked on why should he get away with that behaviour and i agreed , while another asked for the floor .

When he returned he was told by the floor he would get a 20 penalty should he swear again , a few hands later he went out without a murmur .

Having sat down at my table today with approx 10,000 he waited for the blinds to go 400 800 then started raising 2 to 3 times a round , his standard raise was 2200 and i noticed he always did it from second position each round , once he was reraised 6000 and passed but with no other challenge he built his chips up to 17,000 then this happened .

Yet again he raised to 2200 in second position , round to me i had 66 , i knew he was weak and decided to pick up the 5500 in dead money , i called and raised 9000 more , all passed to him and he immediately said " I go all in , i know you are gunning for me , i call you with any two cards after you called the floor on me the other day , i just want to get lucky against you for what you did trying to get me into trouble "

The all in raise was 6200 more , obviously i had to call but i was gobsmacked at his tirade of anger , firstly because it was bollocks and secondlly as it unsettled the whole table . I of course tried to explain i was not the one who called the floor but he told me the dealer had come to him later and said it was me . So because unbeknown to me a dealer had chose to say it was me rather than the real person , probably a regular , he had decided to gamble for all his chips with KJo .

On their backs , if i lose i still have 13,000 , if i win i am up to 50,000 average for a seat .

Flop was T 2 T J 3 and i lose , as you can imagine i was pretty upset and wanted this resolved especially as we may face each other in the big event , short of getting up and reigniting his short fuse i came up with a novel idea .

The next time he raised and it was passed to me i refused to act until he apologised , i explained to the table what he had done the other day and that although i agreed with the other players it was out of order , regardless of what the dealer told him i did not call the floor , the dealer insisted i act and Vinny was listening to his ipod as if nothing was happening , eventually i told him to take off the head set and explained i wanted this resolved , he then apologised not once but twice and said i have played with you before and we have no problems man .

Eventually having gone card dead and with every pot being raised preflop , with 60 left and 34 seats i had to move in with 9To , the BB called with 97o , flop was A A 7 and i was out .

I can't remember an incident upsetting me as much , if he hadn't been told i called the floor , there is no way he would have pushed all his chips in and mouthed off , compounding the incident by then getting lucky on the flop , he will now probably win a $25,500 seat while i had to calm down and write this to get it out of my system.

Ok , job done , now it's time to refocus and prepare for the main event , i can take 2 positives from today , one i played well and beat 320 other players and 2 more importantly , regardless of the incident i retained my composure and never went on tilt .
