Diary

I spent an hour before leaving for the €1000 No Limit event here in Paris tonight reading my diaries at No Limit events this year looking for potential weaknesses in my game i could erase .

Apart from a couple of bad plays / timing in general i am happy with my game , my focus before and during tournaments has been good , and my analysis after has higlighted areas where adjustment is needed .

However what i can't control is the cards i am dealt . Tonight with 160 players , my first table was made up of mostly newbies , half of which had clearly never played live , they forgot to post blinds and were awkward looking at their cards and following the action , obviously this doesn't mean they can't play but it does mean i should be able to read them well and outplay them.

You can imagine my frustration when after six 45 minute levels the best hand i held was 77 .

I really felt if i could get off to a good start i would do well in this event , everyone was playing too cautious in the first level and i bluffed two pots with 8 and 7 high , i started with 1000 chips and never got above 1100 .

After 2 levels as usual i got moved as BB to a new table with the chip leader 2 to my left , i limped in once and he overraised , i passed my 9Ts and he showed 96o in the BB , he raised 3 out of 4 pots , in one he had QTs on the button , made it 125 , Pascal Perrault , recent winner of the EWSOP in Vienna reraised to 350 , our fearless chip leader called and when the flop came K T 4 and Pascal moved in for 475 , he called with second pair , Pascal had JJ but of course a T rivered and our chip leader continues to think this game is easy , he now had nearly 5000 when the average was 1200 , i had 700 and was praying for a hand to double up through him .

I didn't get the chance ,the dinner break came and after winning 2 pots with bluffs and one with AK on a reraise preflop i was left with 520 . After dinner they broke our table , i made it through the 25 50 level and the 35 70 level and still had 400 as the 50 100 started .

My best hand had been 77 twice 55 , AJ and AK , on the first hand of the new level i took the SB and the other short stack on 300 was BB , FP limped and all passed to me , i threw my J8o and the BB checked , flop was Q 7 5 , both checked , turn a T and now the BB went all in for his last 200 and was quickly called by the FP who had AA !

Four hands later i picked up AJo in second position , my last 350 went in and the same player who had AA now found QQ , i flopped a J but couldn't find another or an A .

It is incredibly frustrating to not see any hands for nearly 4 hours then see one player find AA and QQ in 4 hands to knock out 2 players , i wish i could say i made a mistake or lost with KK v TT or at least had a chance but this was one of those events where i played well , looked for opportunities and waited for a double up that never came .

It is times like this where i don't mind suffering from Alopecia because if i had hair i'd be pulling it out !

Tonight is the €250 short handed , i won the €500 in February and will use that to remotivate me but if i don't see better than 77 again i don't expect to win .
