Diary
The structure is very slow , starting 25 25 then 25 50 , 50 100 , 75 150 so no need to get busy early on . In fact during the rebuy period i see few playable hands , i played QQ 22 ds and flopped a set , then AA 56 ds , bet out unchallenged on a 3 4 4 flop but by the end i took a rebuy as i was below my starting stack and also an add on , even then i was below average with 7100 in chips , we started with 2500 .
After the rebuy i hit a nice little rush of hands but only increased to 9300 , i had KQ QT and reraised a 600 bet on the turn to 1500 with a flop showing 4 6 J Q , i got a caller and made my straight when an A rivered , this was followed by AA 89ss , i check called 3 bets on a 9 J 9 2 6 flop only to split , finally i won unchallenged with AQ Q4ds on a turn of 6 7 A 4 giving me two pair and the nut flush draw , at this point my table was broke and i found myself sitting with George McKeever , Juha Helppi and Andy Black .
With a lot of preflop raising i was playing pretty tight for me , level 4 i flopped a set with KQ 88ds but won a small pot then in the next level i raised the pot with KK 89ss only for Juha who was second chip leader to reraise the pot , all passed to me and i flipped up my KK to pass , Juha showed the AA , i won one pot in the 6th level when i called a bet of 1000 in the BB with TJ 33 ds , flop was Q J 3 , good start but dangerous to many draws , i checked as the pot was 4 handed but so did the others , turn was a Q , i had made a full house but checked , river was a 4 and i check called a 1000 bet , luckily they just had a Q , even after that pot i really had had no momentum and was short stacked with 5500 .
Andy Black had become chip leader on the table and with the blinds eating into my stack i losened my starting requirements , i limped for 400 with AT 56 ds , Juha called as did Andy in the SB , so 4 of us took the flop which came A 8 5 , Andy bet out 1000 , passed to me i had top and bottom pair with a T high flush draw , i put Andy on an A with a wrap straight draw like 4 6 7 or 6 7 9 and reraised all in , Juha passed but Andy called and so would you holding his hand , he had me virtually strangled holding AQ 84 for top two pair and the nut flush draw , i needed another 5 or a T , the turn brought a 7 which meant a 4 or a 9 non flushing would give me a straight so should i have just flat called the flop i would have gone all in on the turn , river was a J and i was out.
This was one of those tournaments where i just didn't get going , i played pretty well with what i was dealt but in the end played a mediocre starting hand and flopped to it and paid the price , of course if i sucked out against Andy i could have written my timing was right but in reality if you find yourself shortstacked as i was there are better hands to wait for , i usually have tremendous discipline but i think after passing so many hands seeing a double suited one with an A i convinced myself it was playable , in reality this is a hand you might want to gamble with when very short stacked but on a full table with 4 to act behind you it's garbage , learn from my mistakes it's a lot cheaper !
Next time i play Omaha will be in Amsterdam defending my Master Classics title , i guarantee i will be bringing my A game to the table and with some luck and a few good hands i hope to be writing a report over 2 days , but first i have to focus on the €4000 No Limit EPT so it's an early night for me .
