Biography
Brief History
Simon started playing in Reading in £10 events in 1995 , his first major success was at the 1997 European Championships at The Vic in London , finishing 1st , 2nd , 3rd and 4th in four different events with fields 170+ . In 2001 he won the £1000 EWSOP No Limit in Vienna in March , returning in June to win a second £1000 No Limit event , this took over 11 hours having started at 6pm , Simon had just played and lost a 5 hour match in the World Heads Up Championship before entering , for this he won the inaugural " Performance of the Year " award. In June 2001 he played his third straight European £1000 No Limit event in Paris , the Grand Prix de Paris and came 2nd . He then hit a wall between 2002 and 2003 documented in his feature article "Tournament Rollercoaster " In March 2004 he bounced back with a 22 month £200,000 sponsorship deal with UK Betting which finished in December 2005 , during this time he won some small No Limit events but his main success came in Pot Limit Omaha , he topped the European Rankings in 2004 and finished 4th in 2005 , the highlights were 1st and 2nd in the €500 Pot Limit Omaha at The Master Classics in Amsterdam in consecutive years and his highest payday to date $93,600 in the $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha at the 2005 WSOP.
He is probably best known for being the most successful player on Channel 4's Late Night Poker , he played all 6 series , a total of 9 times , winning both his heat and final in series 2 then coming 2nd in his heat in series 4 , winning the semi final which included Dave Colclough , Ram Vaswani , Pascal Perrault , Phil Helmuth , Kevon O Connell and Jon Shoreman ,then 2nd in the final to the great Hemish Shah.
